The ideal recovery session doesn’t mean laying on the couch all day. (Even if NFL season openers and U.S. Open tennis are on TV!) A little movement can actually help the process along, and that’s why we were anxious to test drive OOFOS footwear as a recovery aid. They recently sent our team four models to test: “OOFOS Review: Club+, Glide, OOahh PLUS & Roam Ripstop.” We found something to love about each pair: the Club+ pairs extra cushioning with an office-friendly leather design, the Glide is a casual slip-on for walks and everyday use, the OOahh PLUS adds more foam to OOFOS’ standard recovery slide, and the Roam Ripstop is designed for wet weather and outdoor use. All of them help support active recovery, and OOFOS says their OOfoam tech absorbs 37% more impact than traditional shoes. By using contoured footbeds, OOFOS footwear reduces stress on your feet and joints as you move around after training. That’s perfect for a gentle walk the day after a workout, as we noted in: “How to relieve muscle soreness without slowing recovery.” Walking or light yoga can promote blood flow and ease muscle tension to reduce soreness and support adaptation. Experts also suggest heat, massage, adequate protein and carbohydrates, and plenty of sleep to get back in action. They also caution against aggressively stretching sore tissue or reaching for ice baths and NSAIDs every time soreness appears, since short-term inflammation can actually support your recovery. So after your next hard workout, you don’t necessarily need to plant yourself on the couch. Keep the movement easy, give your body what it needs to rebuild, and consider putting something soft between your feet and the ground.
