When to wear compression gear

When it comes to compression gear, timing could be just as important as finding the right fit. According to this new piece: “New Research Shows When You Wear Compression Socks Actually Matters,” wearing compression clothing during a run could help your muscles recover faster than putting it on afterward. Researchers divided 56 trail runners into three groups for a 26-kilometer race: one wore compression shorts during the event, another wore them afterward, and a third went without. Runners who wore compression during the race showed significantly better jumping power immediately afterward and two days later. Those who wore it only after the race saw smaller (statistically insignificant) improvements. Both compression groups also had lower levels of creatine kinase, a marker of muscle stress, compared to runners who skipped compression entirely. The study was relatively small and limited to trail runners, but it’s an interesting reason to reconsider when you put on your compression gear. For more info on how compression gear works and how to select the right fit, you can read our article: “How compression gear can elevate your health and performance.” Another useful addition to your running kit could be a better pair of insoles. Our partners at CURREX explain why in “7 Reasons Why You Need Insoles in Running Shoes.” Standard shoe inserts often provide minimal cushioning and support, and replacing them with insoles suited to your foot shape could help distribute pressure, reduce fatigue, and make your stride more comfortable. CURREX’s RUNPRO insoles come in three arch profiles for low, medium, and high arches, with a zero-drop design that preserves your shoe’s original geometry. If you’ve been dealing with foot discomfort or uneven shoe wear, finding the right support could be worth a try.
