We just released a new episode of the SMM Podcast (available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts), featuring Darren Brown, a former collegiate All-American middle-distance runner and current General Manager of OOFOS. In our conversation, Darren shares the story of how he and his biological father, Barry, became the first father-son duo in the U.S. to each break four minutes in the mile. Darren crossed the finish line at the 2008 Texas Relays in 3:59.99, achieving the record by the narrowest possible margin. But the significance of that moment goes far beyond the numbers. Darren lost his father at just seven years old, and his pursuit of the record became a way to honor his legacy and process that loss. We highly recommend reading the full story in Runner’s World’s “Footsteps,” an incredibly moving account of his journey. Our podcast conversation also explores Darren’s practical advice for runners: enjoy the process, increase mileage gradually, and use strength training, drills, plyometrics, and hills to develop speed and resilience. He also explains what makes OOFOS recovery footwear different. Many modern running shoes aim to maximize energy return, but OOFOS takes the opposite approach with its OOfoam technology, designed to absorb impact and reduce stress on your feet and joints. Our team recently tried several models, and the results were overwhelmingly positive. Check out “OOFOS Review: Club+, Glide, OOahh PLUS & Roam Ripstop” for our thoughts on their cushioned leather slip-ons, casual everyday shoes, classic recovery slides, and weather-ready footwear.
